Most Refreshing Treat at Magic Kingdom - Dole Whip

The Disney fans have spoken…the most refreshing treat at the Disney Theme Parks is the Dole Whip at Magic Kingdom Park. The Dole Whip is a pineapple flavored frozen dessert. You can make the Dole Whip into a float by adding pineapple juice. In the Florida heat, this is a refreshing treat to cool down. You can get a Dole Whip at the counter service/quick service location in Adventureland at Magic Kingdom Park.

Late Check out at the Walt Disney World Swan & Dolphin

When planning a Disney World vacation, we know that you want to maximize your time playing at the resort and theme parks. Most guests leave Orlando from 3-5 PM. This can be a tough time to leave, since most resort check out times are at 11 AM. The Disney Resorts do not offer a late check out, so this may affect your resort choice for your Disney World vacation. There is a popular resort right in the middle of the Walt Disney World Resort called the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin. These resorts are not owned by Disney, but you are in the middle of the magic.

This resort does offer late check out options. You can extend your check out time to 2 PM for just an additional $40. If you need to extend your check out time to 5 PM, it is a half night price. If you really need a later check out time, you may want to consider staying at the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resorts for your vacation.

Catch at Flick at Downtown Disney

An inexpensive activity at Disney World is right at Downtown Disney Pleasure Island! Disney has a movie theater right at Pleasure Island. This movie theater is huge with 24 theaters, all with stadium seating. This is a perfect activity during the middle of the day. The theaters are air-conditioned, so you are beating the Florida heat. Plus, it is an inexpensive activity away from the crowds.
Plan on catching the matinee movie for less expensive prices and pack your own candy and snacks. This inexpensive activity can turn expensive if you buy popcorn and snacks for everyone in you family. Pack the snacks and purchase just beverages to save a little money. Take an afternoon break from the parks for some family fun at the movies.

Save Money on Sea World & Busch Gardens Tickets

We know the “mouse” brings most guests to Orlando! However, once in Orlando many families like to experience more than the Walt Disney World Resort. Two of the more popular theme parks in Central Florida are Sea World and Busch Gardens. Sea World is located in Orlando and Busch Gardens is located in Tampa (about 1 1/2 hours away). Both of these theme parks have a discount ticket called the Fun Card. This ticket is advertised to the Florida locals, but it is available to everyone. The Fun Card is the same price as regular admission, but allows you a year of admission to the park. The ticket expires December 31, 2008.

This ticket is an exceptional value for International Guests or guests visiting Orlando for a longer vacation. Even if you are planning just a couple days at one of these parks, you will save money. You can purchase the Fun Card at the front entrance to Sea World or Busch Gardens Tampa.

Summer at the Walt Disney World Resort

Summer is such a fun time for families…the kids are out of school, warmth of the sun, swimming! However, it can also be a busy time at many of the popular travel destinations including the Walt Disney World Resort. Disney World is one of the busiest summer travel destinations for visitors around the World. Many of the popular Disney Resorts are already booking up for June. Our partner travel agencies in the Orlando area are telling us that July and August are also starting to book up. If you are considering a summer vacation, now is the time to plan.

Here are some tips to planning a summer vacation at the Walt Disney World Resort. Our first tip…avoid July (if possible). As Orlando locals and even Theme Park employees, we try to avoid July for playing in the parks. Many of us go into work at the Theme Parks and then head right home afterwards. It is so hot and a little sticky (with the humidity) in July. This is also the busiest month over the summer.

For discounts, late August is a great time to visit. At the end of August, Disney Resorts drop their prices from summer to value seasons. This is a great way to save money on your Disney Resorts. Plus, August is a little bit cooler than July.

If late August is not an option, mid-June is another good time to visit. There are several large groups and conventions in Orlando at the beginning of June, plus alot of families right out of school visit the first week in June. The first week in June has turned into a very busy week. Try a visit the 2nd or 3rd week in June. It is better than the first week and much better than July.
Plan on crowds no matter when you visit in June, July or August - it is one of the busiest times of year. Take advantage of the Extra Magic Hours if you are staying at a Disney Resort. This one feature will save you hours and hours waiting in lines. Also take advantage of the FastPass services. This is free for all guests with a regular theme park tickets. You can use FastPass if you are staying at a Disney Resort, with your friends, or even at a hotel on International Drive. FastPass is for everyone. You can save lots of time waiting in lines with this feature.
We always suggest taking a break during the hottest time of the day (11-2) and relaxing at your resort. You will have a nice break from the heat and the crowds and can head back later that evening. This one tip will make your vacation so much more enjoyable. Believe us - we have actually done tests with families traveling and it really does make everyone so much more relaxed and happy during a Disney World vacation.

Summer is one of the best seasons of the year for families - lots of fun for everyone! Use some of our tips and start planning your trip NOW. Planning early will help you get your favorite resort hotels and best prices. Don’t forget to pack your sunblock!

Save Money on Your Car Rental

Thanks to our partner travel agency, Destinations in Florida, we learned a little bit about saving money on car rentals. Since these agents book car rentals daily for their guests visiting Disney World, they know all about saving money on car rentals. Most of these tips are included in our ebook, but one simple tip is actually often overlooked by guests.

When renting a car, you have the option of adding insurance to your car rental. Most people do add the car insurance because they just do not know better. They think renting a car means adding the insurance. However, that is incorrect and may cost you quite a bit of money on your rental. Before you leave home, check with your own car insurance company. Most car insurance companies will cover you on your own car and even a rental car. If your insurance company does cover car rentals, decline the insurance for your car rental. This can save you $50-100 on your car rental.

Before you leave home, check with your insurance company!

Save Money on Signature Table Service Restaurants

Disney offers several restaurants around Disney World property that are considered Signature Table Service Restaurants. These restaurants are nicer and more expensive restaurants at Disney World. Many guests are unable to visit these restaurants because they are much more expensive (ranging from $18-60 per entree plus tax/tip).

Everyone can experience these restaurants by planning an evening or late afternoon sit down dessert. For the sit down restaurants, most guests think about these restaurants for full meals. However, you can go to any sit down restaurant and enjoy just a dessert and coffee. One of our secret dessert spots is Narcoossee’s at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. This restaurant sits on the Seven Seas Lagoon with a view of Cinderella’s Castle and Wishes Fireworks.
Many guests go to Narcoossee’s in the late evening (before the Wishes Fireworks) for dessert and coffee. You can enjoy a less expensive dessert and coffee while watching the Wishes Fireworks in relaxing seats in the air-conditioning. Desserts range in price from $6-8 plus tax/tip. These prices are much more reasonable for most families.

Be sure to make an Advanced Dining Reservation by calling Disney at 407-WDW-DINE. The Signature Table Service Restaurants are popular and do book up early.

Save Money on Disney World Restaurants

There are many Disney Restaurants that offer all-you-can eat buffets for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The buffets are always more expensive than eating an entree off the menu. For example, Captain’s Grille at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort features a breakfast buffet for $15.99 per person plus tax/tip. You can actually request a menu and select an entree off the menu for less money. The menu item called Eggs Your Way is only $9.99 plus tax/tip. This is a huge portion of eggs, bacon, homestyle pototoes and biscuit. This one plate could easily be two trips to the buffet for less money than the buffet.

When eating around the Walt Disney World Resort, be sure to ask for a menu. Not all restaurants that have buffets have a menu, but it does not hurt to ask. You could save a little extra money on your meal.

Disney Cast Members - Just ASK!

As a Disney Cast Member, I hear so many wonderful stories about Magical Moments during a Disney World vacation. Giving Magical Moments are one of my favorite parts of being a Cast Member at Disney. These Magical Moments are just as special to the Cast Member as they are to a guest visiting Disney World. If I can offer just one little tip to help you enjoy your Disney World vacation, it is to just ASK! We cannot know it is your son’s birthday unless he is wearing a button or if you tell us. We cannot know that your daughter’s dream is to get a picture with Cinderella, unless you tell us. Unfortunately, we are not able to make every request but we have to know your request before we can make it happen. If you have any special wishes during your Disney World vacation, ask a Disney Cast Member at Guest Services or at the Disney Theme Parks. You will be surprised what we are able to accommplish to make your vacation even more magical!

Pack Electronic Toys for a Disney World Vacation

Durng a Disney World vacation, you will have quite a few moments where you are waiting for transportation or just waiting for a show to start. Pack electronic toys like Game Boys, Leap Frogs, or Nintendos for the kids to play while waiting. This will make your waiting experience much more enjoyable! Don’t forget yourself and pack a book or magazine to read while you wait, too.
